Cabbage stir fry recipe, cabbage poriyal, cabbage curry. A simple and easy curry that goes well with sambar, rasam, and curd rice.
Cabbage stir fry recipe is very simple and easy to make. It goes well as a delicious side dish to rice or even as a side dish to rotis or phulkas. Adding coconut is optional, but I add it just because coconut enhances the flavor of this cabbage stir fry. Also, if you wish, you could add peas.

Cabbage (chopped) – 1/2 head
Onion (finely chopped) – 1
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Chilli powder – 1 teaspoon
Coconut (grated) – 3 tablespoon (optional)
Salt – as desired
Oil – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds/ kadugu – 1/2 teaspoon
Urad dal/ulutham paruppu – 1/2 teaspoon
Saunf/sombu – 1/2 teaspoon
Note. The ingredients shown will vary with the original quantity.
1. In a pan, heat oil and let the mustard seeds splutter. Then add urad dal and saunf. Once urad dal turns golden brown, add onion and curry leaves followed by salt. Stir well.
2. Saute onions until transparent. Now add cabbage, turmeric powder, and chilli powder. Stir well.
3. Close the pan, simmer the flame and cook for 6-10 minutes. Finally, add grated coconut, stir well, and cook for a minute. Switch off.
Now, cabbage stir fry is ready! Serve cabbage stir fry as an accompaniment for rice.
