Drumstick Leaves Soup, Murungai Keerai Soup. A simple, hearty vegetarian soup recipe with earthy roasted onion, tomato, drumstick leaves, and few spices.
Drumstick leaves has got lot of health benefits. It reduces the sugar level in the blood, subsides the swelling in the body and reduces body heat.
When I was in India, I used to have it often. Here, I rarely get. Hope you all like my Drumstick Soup/Murungai Keerai Soup recipe.

Drumstick Leaves/Murungai Keerai (washed) – 1 cup + 1 cup
Onion (chopped) – 1 no.
Tomato (chopped) – 1 no.
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 teaspoon
Green Chillies (slitted) – 2 nos.
Turmeric Powder/Manjal Thool – 1/2 teaspoon
Pepper Powder/Milagu Thool – 1/2 teaspoon
Water – 3 cups + 1 cup
Salt – as required
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Cumin Seeds/Jeeragam – 1 teaspoon
Note. The ingredients shown will vary with the original quantity.
1. Heat oil in a pan and then add cumin seeds. Once cumin seeds sizzle, add the chopped onions, slitted green chillies and ginger garlic paste. 2. When ginger garlic paste turns transparent, add the chopped tomatoes. Saute for a minute and then add turmeric powder. Stir well.3. Once tomatoes turn mushy, add the washed drumstick leaves and saute well.The drumstick leaves will start shrinking in size.4. Meantime, add a cup of drumstick leaves along with a cup of water to the blender and grind until smooth.5. Now add the ground drumstick leaves to the pan and cook for 5 to 7 minutes until the raw smell of drumstick leaves go away. Finally add pepper powder, stir well and cook for a minute and then switch off.Now, Drumstick Leaves Soup/Murungai Keerai Rasam is ready! You can either strain and have the soup or have it as such. Serve hot or warm as per your wish.
