Mint Cumin Rice, Pudina Jeera Sadam, Jeera Pudhina Chawal – A simple and tasty Indian flavored rice made with mint leaves, cumin seeds and simple seasonings.
When I heard Mint Cumin Rice, I thought it would be very similar to Jeera Pulao. When I tried it, I was so wrong. It does not taste like Pulao or Biryani. It tasted so much like a variety rice.
Mint Cumin Rice is very easy and simple to make. It has a lot of flavor in it. Try it out and you’ll like it.

Basmati Rice (Cooked) – 1 cup
Onion (Chopped) – 1 cup
Mint Leaves (Finely Chopped) – 1 cup
Ghee – 1 teaspoon
Ghee – 5 teaspoons
Mustard Seeds – 1 teaspoon
Cumin Seeds/Jeeragam – 6 teaspoon
Roasted Gram/Pottukadalai – 1 teaspoon
Ginger (Finely Chopped) – 1 teaspoon
Green Chillies (Finely Chopped) – 2 nos.
Almonds or Cashew Nuts (Sliced) – 10 nos.
Salt – as required
Note. The ingredients shown will vary with the original quantity.
1. Fry the rice in a teaspoon of ghee for a minute. Then add 2 cups of water and pressure cook for two whistles. Set aside to cool down. Heat 5 teaspoons of ghee, and add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Then add cumin seeds and let it sizzle. Now add roasted gram, sliced almonds, ginger and green chillies.2. Once the roasted gram and almonds turn light brown, add the onions. 3. When the onions turn golden brown, add the chopped mint leaves and salt. Saute until mint leaves shrink in size.
4. Add the cooked rice and stir gently so that the rice gets combined with the mint leaves mixture. Lastly, just check for salt.
Now, Mint Cumin Rice is ready! Serve with Boondi Raita.
