Moong Dal Sundal Recipe – A healthy and simple sundal that is very easy to make in few minutes.
I learned moong dal sundal recipe from my mom. I make this sundal very often at home during poojas.
Moong Dal Sundal is very easy to make and healthy too. Moong dal has got many health benefits. Split moong dal is a good source of protein and fiber. It is also easy to digest and decreases high cholesterol.
Make sure you don’t overcook the moong dal and make it mushy. You should be able to see each of the cooked moong dal. At that stage, switch off the stove.
I add curry leaves to the Moong dal Sundal because it gives a very good flavor. However, adding coconut is optional. I add grated coconut to enhance its taste.

Moong dal – 1 cup
Coconut gratings – 1 tablespoon
Salt – as desired
Mustard – 1/2 teaspoon
Asafoetida/Perungayam – a pinch
Red chillies or Green Chillies – 2 nos.
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Oil – as desired
Note. The ingredients shown will vary with the original quantity.
1. Soak moong dal for about an hour and cook it till it becomes soft. It should not become mushy. Drain excess water.
2. In a pan, heat oil. When it is hot, add mustard. When mustard pops up, add green chillies, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Add cooked moong dal and stir well for two minutes. Now add salt and sim the fire.
3. Finally, add coconut gratings and switch off the stove.
Now, Moong Dal Sundal is ready!
