My regular readers should be aware of the fact that these days I am posting many biryani and mixed rice varieties. Yes, I wanted to post many biryani recipes, but somehow it would never happen. At least I am happy that I have started to post biryani recipes recently.
I am posting a very simple and easy Tomato Biryani recipe. Some of them would not like too many masalas in their biryani, this recipe would fit them well. It tastes so great with few spices and ingredients. It is very easy and simple to make. Hope you all like this Tomato Biryani recipe.

Basmati Rice – 250gm
Tomatoes (Chopped) – 5 nos.
Green Chilly – 1 no.
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Chilli Powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Coconut (Gratings) – 3 teaspoon
Cumin Seeds/Jeeragam – 1/2 teaspoon
Coriander Leaves – 1 handful
Oil – 3 teaspoon
Ghee – 2 teaspoon
Salt – as required
Note. The ingredients shown will vary with the original quantity.
1. Soak basmati rice in water for 15 minutes. Meantime, heat oil and Ghee in a pan or pressure cooker, and let the cumin seeds sizzle.
2. Now add the chopped tomatoes and green chillies. Stir well. Then add grated coconut, chilli powder, salt, and turmeric powder. 3. Stir well and cook until it reaches a “thokku” like thick consistency. Now add the coriander leaves.
4. Now add two cups of water and bring it to a boil. 5. Then add the soaked rice after draining its water. Check for salt. When the rice starts to cook, close the pan and cook for 10 minutes in low flame. Your biryani will be done. If you are using a pressure cooker, then cook for a whistle and simmer the flame and cook for another 5 minutes. 6. Finally, open the lid/cooker and gently fluff the rice with a fork.
Now, Tomato Biryani is ready! Serve with Onion Raita or Boondi Raita.
