Okra fry recipe, bhindi fry, vendaikkai fry. A simple and easy stir fry made with okra or bhindi and simple seasonings.

  • 2 cups Okra/bhindi/vendakkai/ladies finger finely chopped to round slices
  • 1 cup Onion or sambar onion finely chopped
  • 4 leaves Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 3 tsp Coconut grated
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Salt as required
  • 4 tsp Oil


  1. Heat oil in a pan, and let the mustard seeds splutter. Then add curry leaves and chopped onion. Once onions turn transparent, add the chopped okra. Cook for 5 minutes while stirring in between.

  2. Once okra is cooked, add chilli powder and salt. Mix well, reduce the flame and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes.

  3. Simmer the flame and finally add the grated coconut. Cook for a minute and then switch off. Now, okra fry is ready! Serve it with curd rice or sambar.
